CapMed launched the first commercial personal health record in the mid-1990’s, and continues to play a vital role in advancing PHR technology and the public policy surrounding the concept. CapMed launched the patent-pending Personal HealthKey in 2003 for secure portability of health information on a key chain by using USB flash disk technology. That same year, CapMed was acquired by Metavante By 2006, over 600,000 PHRs had been distributed. CapMed launched its Online PHR in 2007, completing the PHR suite of tools as a fully hybrid solution, with three interchangeable formats. CapMed Solutions

The CapMed Personal Health Management suite of tools is driven by CapMed’s Personal Health Record (PHR) application. The CapMed PHR is a hybrid application and provides patients options on how personal health information is stored, managed, and shared. CapMed’s interactive patient outreach solutions are made available to end users in three, secure applications: the Personal Health Record™, a desktop version installed on the personal computer with a CD-ROM, the Personal HealthKey™, a USB thumbdrive, and the Online PHR™, the Internet-based application. Each application contains complete versions of your organization™s customized version of the CapMed Personal Health Platform, a full-featured software application which assists patients in managing their personal health and wellness.

	Personal HealthKey™ Transport your personal health information privately and securely on a key chain with the CapMed Personal HealthKey. Simple, reliable, secure and cost-effective, HealthKey plugs into any computer USB port, available on most computers worldwide. The HealthKey contains the Personal Health Record application, allowing you to transport your entire medical record or specific health reports including images. Data encryption and password protection lets you decide which information to share. The HealthKey can be easily updated and viewed with no additional hardware or software needed, so, unlike a smart card, it’s never obsolete.
	Personal Health Record™ CD-ROM CapMed is the industry leader in CD-based personal health records (PHR). With over half a million distributed to date, the CapMed Personal Health Record™ is a CD-ROM which can be accessed by any computer with a CD-ROM drive. The CD launches the user interface to the CapMed Personal Health Record. You enter or import data into the software program which is then stored on the computer’s hard drive. Reports of data can be printed out and shared with medical care providers or through a secure data exchange.
	Online PHR™ The CapMed Online PHR is the online version of the desktop and USB drive applications, enabling you to manage all or part of your PHR information online. The Online PHR can be implemented in a hybrid model with the Personal HealthKey and/or PHR CD-ROM, or as a stand-alone solution. You may authorize providers, family members, and caregivers to view all or part of the data. You have complete control to assign varying levels of authorization and access to these individuals.
